1. Preheat the oven to 425 degrees.
2. Add the butter to a 10 inch cast iron skillet.
3. Bake in the oven for 8 minutes or until melted.
4. In a medium mixing bowl, combine the buttermilk and egg and whisk until combined.
5. Add the butter from the skillet, mixing well.
6. Add the cornmeal and whisk until smooth.
7. Transfer the mixture to the hot skillet and bake until golden brown which takes about 30 minutes.
